Internet Trolls are Ruining the MLB All-Star Game, and It’s Awesome

If you’re a millennial, you’re probably a lazy moocher who SHOULD JUST GET A JOB ALREADY. Also: You probably really don’t care about baseball very much.

But you should! At least for a little. That’s because Kansas City Royals’ fans (and many, many wonderful internet trolls) are trying to ruin the MLB All-Star game.

Since Major League Baseball allows fans to vote in the All-Star game starters, this strange concoction of merry pranksters has taken it upon themselves to try to vote in all nine Kansas City Royals to the starting lineup. And it’s working! According to the most recent vote tally, Royals occupy eight of the nine available starting spots, with only Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels escaping the grasp of the trolls.

Among the notable Royals currently slated to start the Midsummer Classic is second baseman Omar Infante. Infante’s candidacy is particularly wonderful because, as Yahoo Sports points out, he’s been the worst hitter in baseball this season.

But that’s not dissuading the Royals/trolls army; it’s only making things more fun. They’ve turned #VoteOmar into a trending topic and have him up by more than 300,000 votes over his closest competitor, Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros.

With voting running through July 2nd, let’s hope that these trolls have some free time to keep stuffing the ballot. What am I even saying? The only thing trolls have is free time. This is totally happening.

And even though this might seem bad for baseball right now, this could all work out for it in the end. If these trolls can successfully pull this thing off, it will actually make the game watchable for once.

Well, for like an inning or so.
