When a team scores a goal in soccer, the players should celebrate. Scoring a goal is hard, and it doesn’t happen all that often. So, by all means, do a cartwheel, suck your thumb, punch the corner flag, etc. You’ve earned it.
Just make sure you do all that celebrating on your opponent’s side of the pitch. Because, if you carry that party over to your team’s half of the pitch and none of your players remain on the attacking side, the other team is free to start play again.
And, while you’d think that would never ever happen, this is exactly what happened during a match between Zambia’s K-Stars and Mozambique’s Ferroviario Maputo, which resulted in one of the most bizarre sports moments I’ve ever seen.
