In episode 56,943 of animals are awesome and often better than humans, a cat named Masha rescued a baby from the freezing Russian winter. OoOoOoOoOo who’s a wittle hero kitty? You are, Masha. Yes, you are.

According to reports, a baby was left in the stairwell of a building in Obninsk, Russia, with some bottles, diapers, and dressed in warm clothes. Still, it’s unlikely the baby would have survived the night due to the extremely cold weather. (The low temperature in Obninsk tomorrow night is 11 degrees Fahrenheit, fyi.)

When Masha found the baby, she crawled into the box with the infant to keep him warm. Both Masha and the baby started crying, which drew one of the building’s residents to their location. If Masha’s act of general awesomeness wasn’t enough, she even wanted to ride to the hospital with her new friend.

“She was so worried about where we were taking the baby,” Vera Ivanina, one of paramedics who transported the child, told REN TV. “She ran right behind us, meowing. She seemed quite intelligent.”

Doctors have said that the baby will be fine, thanks to Masha. As for our hero, it seems like she will remain the building’s communal cat. We hope Masha’s actions find her a good home or, at the very least, something yummy to eat.
