Viral Video of the Week: Halloween Edition

Halloween is great. There’s no debating that, just like there’s no debating that Resse’s is the greatest Halloween candy of all time. These are just facts, people. And part of what makes Halloween so great is the awesome novelty music that it has spawned. So, for this very special edition of Viral Video of the Week we’re giving you not just the greatest Halloween song of all time but the two (two!) greatest Halloween songs of all time. Again, just facts here.

Of course, there’s no way we could call ourselves a respectable publication without including the classic “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett in our brief list of best Halloween songs of all time. Without a doubt, it’s become the gold standard for Halloween novelty tracks. Bobby really sells the creep-vibe with his facial expressions in this rendition on “American Bandstand” back in October 1964.

This second video is less well-known but no less awesome. It comes from an episode of “30 Rock,” where Tracy Jordan discovers a gold record from his novelty party song “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.” Although it’s only a short clip in the show, the brilliant minds behind “30 Rock” undoubtedly realized that they needed to take that clip and make it into a whole song. We, and Halloween aficionados everywhere, thank them for that.
